Being a Writer
Hi, everyone!
I hope you are all doing well today! :) Today’s a day of rambling, but I hope this post speaks to someone!
So, today I was thinking about the sacrifices a writer makes if they want to pursue writing professionally. A few different things come to mind, but the biggest one is the balancing act that goes into play when a writer wants to be full-time.
Trying to balance a full-time job with what a writer hopes will be come their full-time writer is difficult for so many reasons.
A writer sacrifices sleep, money, time, mental energy, along with so many other things that are unique to each individual writer themselves.
I know for myself, I have been up until 3 am more times than I can count due to writing. I know others have woken up earlier just to fit the task into their schedule, too. Fifteen minute breaks at work are fifteen minutes of trying to figure out what’s wrong with a scene or a character arc or a bit of dialogue that will not fix itself. Then time is up and its back to the “normal” world.
Your writer brain needs a break, but can never have it because sometimes the only way to make progress is by allowing your mind to work out writing issues while doing the everyday.
As writers, we probably look and sound like crazy people, but this is our reality.
I truly wish I had the aesthetic that I see on writer vlogs and as seen in movies. But I’m not afforded that luxury and I know so many others writers who aren’t either.
In fact, the more I try for that, the more of a failure I feel as a writer. This is definitely not meant to call out any writers who do have this because I love watching writer vlogs, especially the ones that involve cameos by the writer’s pets! :)
But in actuality, I am speaking to the writer who is trying to get to that point. The writer who wants that aesthetic, but is caught between two jobs, family obligations, health concerns, and/or is trying to make ends meet while pursuing their dreams.
I’m speaking to that writer because I am also that writer.
And you know what? You are a writer, I am a writer, the writers we see on social media are writers, too (hopefully) . And each writer goes through their journey in different ways.
The only thing that I can say is keep going! You’ve got this! I know it’s not easy, but I also know that it will be worth it! :)
Thanks for reading my ramblings! Lol :P
